Marie is an experienced Home Economics teacher who taught at secondary level for many years before diversifying to community education where she taught textiles to travellers for 8 years.
During her teaching career she availed of a career break and studied at the Grafton academy of dress designing and also did numerous courses in creative textiles specialising in free motion embroidery.
She’s passionate about healthy eating and has been an advocate for home cooked non processed foods for decades.
This has been complimented for the past 6 years through growing organic vegetables and herbs.
Sustained health is further enhanced by her diploma in Homoeopathy and while she doesn’t practice she maintains her health holistically through modalities like kinesiology and bio magnetics.
Marie has a deep-rooted passion to reduce waste in all its forms but especially landfill stacks of “fast fashion” which contributes to 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions.
· reducing hazardous materials (petroleum, phthalates, formaldehyde lead)
· reducing exploitation of workers
· reducing exploitation/destruction of the environment
· landfill diversion/reduce incineration
· promotion of circular economy
Marie’s main inspiration has been her own personal interest as even from a very young age she’s always favoured quality over quantity.
Well-made clothing from natural fabrics automatically have longevity and also look and drape well on the body.
Even though she has left education for the past 10 years she’s hoping to resume sharing her skills, and experience for the reasons listed above to both community and private groups.
