Drogheda based NGO secure funding to work with refugees on ‘STIRE’ – Supporting The Integration of the Resettled

05/08/2019

Research begins on project which focuses on supporting refugees to continue their lives in Ireland.

In late August, Development Perspectives will begin to conduct research with newly arrived refugees as part of their STIRE project – a project which aims to assist refugees with continuing their lives in the Irish communities they settle in.

The research will seek to analyse the needs of refugees who arrive in Ireland from refugees camps in Jordan and The Lebanon. This needs analysis will take the form of 3 focus groups and 6 one-to-one interviews. The information gathered will then guide the development of educational workshops and tools related to the orientation of refugees upon arrival in Ireland.

Research will also take place with stakeholders such as non-governmental organisations, policy makers, service providers, community multipliers and volunteers working with refugees. This research will identify the challenges facing these stakeholders in their work and interactions with refugees.

Speaking about the research, STIRE Project Coordinator Paul Crewe said:
“This research will be invaluable as a starting point to engage with the refugees and to understand their immediate needs when arriving in Ireland from their own perspectives. The parallel research with stakeholders will compliment this by understanding the challenges in meeting these needs.”

STIRE is a 2 year project involving 7 partner organisations from 6 countries (Austria, Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Romania and Slovenia).

It is funded by the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
