South East’s Adult and Community Educators upskilling during COVID crisis.

11/06/2020

Throughout the months of April and May, Development Perspectives was delighted to bring together 20 Adult & Community Education practitioners based in the South East of Ireland for an online edition of Training of Trainers. This training was hosted as part of Saolta to support practitioners to incorporate Development Education further into their practice.

The participants of this programme came together for four online sessions to explore the various concepts within Development Education, to delve deeper into the contested world of Development and to engage in a variety of methodologies which can be used to support their Development Education practice. As part of the training, the participants had an opportunity to hear from Creativity and Change about ways in which to creatively engage with Development Education.

Weekly tasks were distributed to the group to engage with some of which included further case study reading, connecting in sub-groups and creating their own Development Education lesson plans. All participants are encouraged to deliver at least one Development Education session in their workplace, after they return to work given the current COVID crisis.

Going forward the group will be offered the opportunity to avail of one to one mentoring and coaching to support their practice and will be invited to attend a group learning reflection session in September.

The second edition of this training course will take place in September/October 2020 and places will be available for Adult and Community Education practitioners working in the North East of Ireland.
