My Journey with Development Perspectives has been one of growth, learning, connection and purpose. What began as an opportunity to become involved in a community development and global citizenship education has evolved into a deeply meaningful experience that continues to shape both my personal and professional life.
Over the past year, I have had the privilege of engaging in several inspiring initiatives through Development Perspectives, each one helping me to better understand the importance of social justice, equity, wellbeing and community connection in today’s world.
One of the highlights of my journey so far has been my involvement in Erasmus+ 2025 and co-facilitating the Training of Trainers programme. These experiences expanded my understanding of global citizenship, inclusion and sustainable development while also strengthening my confidence in facilitation, communication and teamwork. Working alongside others in a co-facilitation role gave me valuable insight into creating inclusive learning environments where people feel encouraged, heard and empowered to participate fully. Meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures reminded me how important equity and equal opportunities are in creating stronger and healthier communities.

Another meaningful part of my experience has been my involvement with the SDG Challenge Schools programme. Seeing young people engage with the Sustainable Development Goals and explore ways they can create positive change in their schools and communities was incredibly inspiring. It reinforced my belief that education and awareness are powerful tools for creating a fairer, more compassionate and more equitable world.
More recently, I have been involved in the administration and support work connected to the SDG Advocate Training 2026. Working behind the scenes has given me valuable insight into programme coordination, organisation and participant support. It has also shown me how much dedication, collaboration and care goes into creating meaningful learning experiences for others.
Alongside my role within Development Perspectives, I have continued to deepen my passion for community development, wellbeing and social justice. These areas are very close to my heart. Throughout my own life journey, I have become increasingly aware of the importance of creating supportive communities where people feel connected, included and empowered. I believe true development is not only about systems and policies, but also about people feeling seen, respected and given equitable opportunities to thrive in their everyday lives.
My current role as Support and Admin Officer on work placement has allowed me to bring together many of my skills, values and experiences. Through this role, I have continued developing my organisational, communication and administrative abilities while learning the importance of adaptability, teamwork and professional growth.
At the same time, my QQI Level 6 Training, Delivery and Evaluation course has contributed greatly to my confidence and understanding of learning environments, facilitation and participant engagement. The course has helped me appreciate the importance of inclusive learning spaces and how education can empower individuals and communities alike.

One of the most inspiring parts of my journey so far has been recognising how my experiences, passions and learning are shaping the vision I have for my own community. I feel inspired to design and develop a community-based project where people can come together to grow food and plants, share their skills, connect with one another and support overall health and wellbeing. I believe projects like this can help strengthen communities by encouraging inclusion, sustainability, shared learning and connection across generations. Bringing people together through nature, food and shared experiences has the potential to create a positive ripple effect that supports both individual wellbeing and collective community resilience.
Looking back, I can see how much each experience has connected together to support both my personal healing journey and my professional development. I have learned that growth often happens when we step outside our comfort zones, remain open to learning and allow ourselves to be guided by purpose and values.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunities, encouragement and connections I have experienced through Development Perspectives so far. Being part of an organisation that values equality, equity, sustainability, wellbeing and global justice has strengthened my belief that positive change begins with awareness, compassion and collective action.
As I continue this journey, I look forward to learning more, contributing further and continuing to support work that helps create a more just, compassionate and sustainable world for everyone.
